Review Approach
Hello! Welcome to my corner of the internet. Here I post reviews of books I've read, as well as other literary thoughts.
I thought that I'd share my review approach so my readers can get an idea of how I analyze what I'm reading. I go with a five star approach but I also do half stars, so a book could be 4 stars, but it could also be 3.5 stars. Usually a half star means I couldn't decide what whole number it should get.
⭐ One star means I didn't like it all. Its plot was atrocious, the characters weren't compelling, the writing was flat out terrible. Example: I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter or Allegiant
⭐⭐ Two stars means it wasn't terrible but it had a few redeeming qualities. For example, maybe the storyline was awful, but the characters were sympathetic. Example: The Paper Girl of Paris or The Yellow Bird Sings
⭐⭐⭐ It was alright. The book wasn't boring, but it wasn't exceptional either. I'm glad I read it, but I probably won't reread it. Example: Running Out of Time or House
⭐⭐⭐⭐ The book was pretty good. Good characters, solid storyline, decent writing. Overall a very satisfactory read. I can see myself rereading it someday and I'd want to have it on my shelves. Example: The Light in Hidden Places or Davita's Harp
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Five stars: absolutely fantastic. The characters were captivating, the plot was powerful, and the writing wonderful. I heartily recommend and I look forward to reading it again. Example: Canticle for Leibowitz or Across Five Aprils
